Carmelites celebrated Onam on 31st August 2017. ‘Onaghosham 2017’ was in fact a celebration of tradition and prosperity. The legendary Mahabali was given a warm and traditional welcome in the school quadrangle. The strains of ‘Onappattu’ filled the air. Fun games like tug of war, breaking the pot etc. were held with great fanfare. Onappayasam was distributed to all the students. Apart from the traditional Onam varavelppu, floral carpet and traditional dress competitions were conducted to make it a memorable occasion for the KG and LP kids.
The formal function was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Jose Stephen Menachery, Manager and Presided over by Principal, Rev. Fr. Jose Kidangan CMI. PTWA President Sri. Subhash Chandra Dass, who received the Best PTA President Award (Unaided) in the District was honoured during the programme.
Teachers’ Day Celebration:
Teachers Day celebrations was clubbed with Onam Celebrations this year. Students greeted teachers with rose flowers and specially made greeting cards.
Hindi Day Observation:
Hindi day was observed with great thrill and enthusiasm. Morning assembly and performance in Hindi, Notice Board Competition and Quiz competition were conducted in the U.P., H.S., and H.S.S. Sections in connection with the same.
Students of STD IX set out on a three days tour to Bangalore-Mysore-Ooty on the 21st of this month.

Carmel Nallapadam friends got a golden opportunity to interview Hon’ble Minister for Education Sri. C. Raveendranath. Students interacted with the minister for about 45 minutes on the topic ‘Influence of E-media on students- advantages and disadvantages’. – a great experience to cherish.
Nallapadam friends visited Sasthapoovam tribal Colony, Vellikulangara and distributed Onakodi and Onam Kit.
School youth festival ‘Kalanjali 2017’ was a grand success. The programme was inaugurated by Mrs. Akhila Nandakumar, Carmel alumnus and popular News Reporter, Asianet News, Thiruvananthapuram and presided over by our Principal, Rev. Fr. Jose Kidangan CMI. The opening ceremony and logo release provided an elegant and impressive prelude to the two days’ school youth festival.
As part of Nalla Paadam 20 students are being trained to make LED Bulbs by Mr. Sudardasanan D.V., Retd. Master Trainer, D.E.O., Irinjalakuda. The bulbs will be distributed to the deserving people in the neighbourhood.
Independence Day Celebrations:
Independence Day celebrations evoked patriotic fervour in all who attended. Manager, Rev. Fr. Jose Stephen Menachery hoisted the flag. Principal, Rev. Fr. Jose Kidangan CMI gave the message of the day. Skits, house wise patriotic song competitions and dances made the programme a memorable one. A number of competitions like flag making, drawing, colouring, patriotic song, speech competitions were conducted in the primary section in connection with the same.
The 42nd Interhouse Athletic Meet was inaugurated on 4 August 2017. Sri. N. Rajesh, D.F.O., Vazhachal Division hoisted the flag and declared the meet open. Principal, Rev. Fr. Fr. Jose Stephen Menachery handed over the torch to the school captain Mast. Felix Francis.

‘Rhapsodic 2K17’: School Exhibition and Work Experience competition
Rhapsodic 2k17 was in fact a celebration of novelty and innovation right from the inauguration. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Santhosh Paul, Professor, S.H. College, Chalakudy. Principal, Rev. Fr. Jose Kidangan in his inspiring message exhorted the students to explore their creative talents to the best of their abilities. Plus Two students displayed a snow world as part of the logo presentation that took the audience to a different world.
Carmel Day Celebrations:
Our Patroness’ Day was celebrated on 15th July 2017 with great joy and enthusiasm. The day’s programme began with a prayer service followed by a common gathering. Rev. Fr. Davis Panackal, Vicar Provincial & Councillor for Pastoral Ministry, Devamatha Province, inaugurated the programme presided over by Manager Rev. Fr. Jose Stephen Menachery. Principal, Rev. Fr. Jose Kidangan delivered the message of the day. Kum. Ann Tressa Prince, School Jt. Secretary welcomed the gathering. Sri. Subash Chandra Dass, PTWA President, Staff and Student representatives felicitated on the occasion.
Coupon release of ‘Eleos’, a fund raising programme arranged under the auspices of the Associates of Carmel was held during the programme. ‘Associates’ Voice’- the annual magazine of the Associates of Carmel was released. Prizes for the winners of the different competitions conducted in connection with Carmel Day were given away during the programme. The colourful dances and melodious songs added to the gaiety of the occasion.
Nalla Paadam – Awareness classes held.
In connection with Nalla Paadam project, an awareness class on ‘Consumer Protection’ was conducted by Sri. Prince Thekkan, President, Consumer Protection Council for the High School students. Another awareness class on ‘the dangers of drug abuse’ was led by Mr. Padmarajan Nambiar, Superintendent of Customs and Central Excise, Ernakulam for the students of Plus One and Plus Two.
Students are encouraged to contribute a rupee daily for the activities undertaken by the Nalla Paadam friends of Carmel. ‘One Rupee per day for the poor’ project was launched by Ward Councillor Smt. Bindu Sasikumar.
CAPE (Carmel Academy for Professional Excellence)
An orientation programme was held for the parents and students of STD VII, VIII & IX by ZETA Academy for Professional Excellence under the auspices of CAPE. Mr. Praveen Chirayath led the class. This year the Civil Service training classes are handled by trainers from Zeta Academy, Thrissur.
The school reopened on 1st June 2017. After the promotion procedure, staff and students gathered in the school auditorium to invoke God’s blessings for a perfect beginning. The prayer service was led by our new Manager Rev. Fr. Jose Stephen Menachery and Principal Rev. Fr. Jose Kidangan. After the prayer service there was a common gathering during which we accorded a warm reception to our new Manager, Rev. Fr. Jose Stephen Menachery. Carmelites also bade farewell to Manager Rev. Fr. Thomas Achandy. The new teachers and students were given a warm welcome. The students took oath to abide by the rules and regulations of the school and perform to the best of their abilities. Principal in his message exhorted the students to spiritualize learning and to strive to be good individuals. Sri. Subhash Chandra Dass, President, PTWA felicitated.
NEW DIVISIONS STARTED:
To contain the influx of students seeking admission to Carmel, a new division
V D was started this year, a sure sign of the school’s growth.
PLUS ONE OPENING:
Plus one students were accorded a warm welcome on 07/06/2016. The programme began with a prayer service. This was followed by common gathering during which Principal Rev. Fr. Jose Kidangan CMI addressed the students and their parents. The senior batch put up a grand show that made the new comers feel at home. Mr. Sony C. Francis, Director, TOPS Academy gave an orientation talk during the programme.
The initiation to learning was very colourful programme. The tiny tots of KG were given a warm welcome in to the temple of learning. This was followed by a prayer service and the traditional Ezhuthiniruthu. Rev. Fr. Jose Stephen Menachery, Rev. Fr. Jose Kidangan and Mrs. Kumari P.K., Administrator (Academic) led the solemn Ezhuthiniruthu.
WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY:
The day was observed with due importance in the L.P., U.P., and H.S. Sections. All the students took pledge to protect Nature. A short message was delivered by Principal, Rev. Fr. Jose Kidangan. A seminar was conducted by Mrs. Seema Suresh, Wild Life Activist in connection with the same. Saplings were distributed to students.
Carmel Nallapadam friends have decided to concentrate more on environmental activities this year. They aim at creating more awareness about preservation of nature among Carmelites and the public in general. They have taken initiative to setup a Medicinal Plants garden in the school premises. Sri. Suresh Kumarampilly, Environmental Activist and Social Worker gave a talk on rain water harvesting.
Investiture Ceremony was a very solemn affair. The school office bearers were formally invested with badges signifying responsibility. Rev. Fr. Jose Kidangan CMI, Principal inaugurated the programme.
PTWA GENERAL BODY:
The first PTWA General Body of this academic year was held this month. Parent representatives were elected to the Executive Committee. An orientation Class on ‘Better Parenting’ by Mr. Sony Akkara, Academic Consultant and Executive Director, Answers & Links Pvt. Ltd., Thrissur was really effective.
A new batch of the NCC Air Wing has started with 52 students on the rolls. NCC cadets participated in the Yoga Day observation conducted on the International Yoga Day ( June 21) with great enthusiasm.
The school toppers (HSE) Kum. Annarose J. Palliyan and Kum. Shreya K. Sugathan who secured 1200/1200, Full A+ winners in the SSLC (78) and HSE examinations(55) were honoured on 17th June 2017. MLA, Sri. B.D. Devassy inaugurated the function. The meeting was presided over by Rev. Fr. Jose Stephen Menachery, Manager. Rev. Fr. Shaju Edamana, Councillor for Education, Devamatha Province delivered the keynote address. Smt. Usha Parameswaran, Chairperson , Chalakudy Municipality, Rev. Fr. Santhosh Mundanmany, Principal, CMI Public School, Rev. Fr. Yesudas Chungath, Principal Carmel Academy, Smt. Bindu Sasikumar, Ward Councillor and Sri. Lalumon K.A., Reporter Malayala Manorama graced the occasion. School Magazine 2016-17 – ‘Megaleio’ was released by Rev. Fr. Shaju Edamana, on this occasion
Nallapadam Award for Carmel:
Carmel Nallapadam unit has secured A grade for the activities of the year. The award which includes a cash prize of Rs. 5000/- was given away by Mr. Lalumon, correspondent, Malayalam Manorama, during Vijayolsavam.
Chalakudy Municipality Honours Carmel:
Chalakudy Municipality specially honoured Camel for being the First in the state with regard to the HSE result. Principal, Rev. Fr. Jose Kidangan received the award from Hon’ble Minister Sri. K.T. Jalil during the Vijayolsavam held at the Municipal Complex.
